Contador Wins Vuelta on WiFLi
RED-2012 WiFLi is Spaniards Weaponry of Choice
During the beautifully intense three weeks of the 2012 Vuelta a España, noted by many as the most exciting Grand Tour of the year, Alberto Contador (Team SaxoBank-Tinkoff Bank), attacked relentlessly. It was the dramatic stage into Fuente Dé where Contador finally outgunned everyone, resulting in a spectacular win that vaulted him into the red leader’s jersey aboard his SRAM RED-2012 WiFLi equipped Specialized SL4. With the great work of his teammates, Contador was able to secure his second Vuelta victory.
Contador’s mechanic, the renowned Faustino, installed RED-WiFLi before the first stage in Pamplona. WiFLi is SRAM’s technological philosophy of a Wider gear range allowable via a mid-cage rear derailleur, Faster shifting with two chainrings, and Lightweight. The all-new mid-cage (longer) rear derailleur allowed Contador to ride cassettes up to 32 teeth. On steeper stages Alberto utilized an 11-28 or 11-32, for comfortable climbing as well as fast descending.
SRAM WiFLi is available for all SRAM Road groupsets: RED, Force, Rival and Apex.
