SRAM 2X10 Athletes Dominate Leadville 100
|
Levi Leipheimer, JHK, Todd Wells, David Wiens and Jeremiah Bishop all crossed the Leadville finish line in record time using SRAM’s 2X10 XX. Just under 1400 racers flocked to the small Colorado town to compete against the strongest legs and lungs in the world. Racers start at just over 10,000 feet and climb to an even more oxygen-deprived 12,500 feet. The talented field pushed and pulled against each other from the start of the gun. Altitude was a big factor for all racers. For Wells, a collision with Levi resulted in a flat tire and a bent wheel that he later swapped with teammate Ned Overend. Even with the setbacks, Wells kept it exciting and caught back up with the leaders for a third place finish. JHK hung with Levi on most all the climbs and even created a temporary gap after one of the descents. Rebecca Rusch rode super strong and consistent the whole course - so strong, she broke the course record that was set over 10 years ago. The Leadville 100 is the ultimate test of endurance for both racer and machine. SRAM’s XX handled the long sustained climbs and all-out descents with ease. At the finish line, the right racers were riding the right gear.
