SRAM RED-2012 takes Green - Sagan and Nibali Shine
|
One of the more popular riders emerging from the 2012 Tour de France has to be the 22-year-old Peter Sagan. Sagan sprinted to three colorful stage wins and secured the Green Points jersey, the youngest rider ever to do so. The quiet sensation from Slovakia has all-around capabilities and utilized this skills for consistent finishes, to put his lead in the points classification out of reach nearly a week before the tours finale. Sagan finished an incredible 141 points ahead of Andrei Griepel (Lotto). “I came here to win a stage, so to come away with three plus the green jersey is just unbelivable,” said Sagan. Sagan came inches away from winning his fourth, finishing just behind Cavendish (Sky) on the final stage on the Champs-Élysées. Closer to the top step of the podium, the Liquigas-Cannondale cycling team lent their full three weeks of support to the Italian team leader Vincenzo Nibali, who finished an incredible third in the general classification. The team finished with a complete contingent of riders, and have for an amazing 11 consecutive Tours. The team rode SRAM RED-2012 componentry, decidedly the world’s lightest and fastest gruppo, and it obviously goes very well with green.
