SRAM Dealer News (North America) http://www.sram.com/dealernews/ Copyright 2008 Mon, 03 Nov 2008 06:55:13 -0600 http://www.movabletype.org/?v=3.17 http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss "I need one more gear" A common question on SRAM road shifters is what happens when a rider is in the largest cog and tries to get one more easier gear. Most people think you're stuck, touch the shifter and its a harder gear when you least want one. But with proper setup this can be avoided. Two limit screw adjustments are all it takes.

Where are the Red FD clamps? If you're wondering why it's hard to find a Red front derailleur clamp you're not alone. We have changed the design of the clamp to prevent damage to some frames. Until the new clamp is ready the Problem Solvers clamp is a great option. If you have any of the Red clamps in stock please contact Dealer Service regarding replacements.

Free Force parts! With all the coming excitement of the Red road group many wonder what’s in store for Force and Rival for next year. Both of those groups have undergone design improvements based on dealer feedback during the year although most people haven’t heard about them yet. There are four updates, all of which are used in current production, to both groups that you can add to your customer’s groups for improved performance For any of these (and they’re all FREE!) just call into our dealer service line and ask.

1) New inner rear derailleur inner cage plate – We’ve redesigned the inner cage to prevent the chain from coming off of the upper jockey wheel and preventing a chain jam. Both plates are shown, the new one is above. Part number 11.7515.008.000 for Force and 11.7515.006.000 for Rival.

2) Shifter clamp washers – These washers prevent the shifter body from being damaged if it’s over tightened. This can happen on a carbon handlebar with a smooth surface, if you’re using the shifter on a smooth surface carbon bar an assembly paste such as the Tacx will reduce the amount of torque required to hold the shifter. Remember the clamping torque specification is 53-70 inch pounds. Part number 11.7015.026.000 (2 in each kit)

3) Front derailleur braze on washer—If you’re installing a Force or Rival front derailleur and the tail will not line up correctly this washer allows for more adjustability in the derailleur angle. You could use a Coke can but this fits like a glove! Part number 11.7615.011.000.

4) Front derailleur chainguide –This nifty device mounts at the rear of the front derailleur cage to allow the rider to guide the chain back on the rings should it derail to the inside. We do recommend anytime a chain derails the BEST way to guide chain back on the chainrings to manually put it back on—a chain can bounce into the spokes and cause a lot of damage to the wheel and frame if it jams.
