Compton sees RED

America’s winningest female cyclocross racer has chosen to race SRAM RED for the next two seasons. Katie Compton (Planet Bike), a five time Cyclocross National Champion, has ‘Made the Leap’ to SRAM RED componentry through the 2011 Cyclocross World Championships.

Compton will race SRAM RED shift levers, which will be mated to the world’s lightest (58gm) front and (153gm) rear RED derailleurs by the SRAM Professional Cable System by Gore. Her handlebars will be Zipp SLC2’s along with the carbon Zipp VumaQuad crank with custom non-Zipp chainrings. Compton will run a range of SRAM PG-1070 cassettes on her Zipp 303 cyclocross wheelset.

“I have incredibly high standards and I chose SRAM because it’s the only componentry suitable for all the conditions of Cross, including the extremely wet and sandy conditions of Belgium,” said Compton. “Honestly, the SRAM RED felt like a design project just for me, from reach adjust to zero-loss, the RED gruppo is perfect.”

SRAM will also utilize the four time World Cup race winner on the product development front, where SRAM engineers will look for her input to further the advantages of SRAM's road groups on the dirt. “We are absolutely counting on feedback from Katie, its part of our agreement,” said Alex Wassmann, SRAM’s Sponsorship Manager.

Compton (30) will primarily race in Europe, competing in every round of the World Cup, and the former silver and bronze medalist feels that World Champions rainbow jersey is well within her reach. She is also expected to race the Madison, WI, U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross event Sept. 27.
