Leipheimer wins Castilla y Leon
|
SRAM RED-equipped Team Astana went 1-2 at the Vuelta a Castilla y León and Leipheimer claimed his second win in only his second race of the season. After an injury during the California race, a fractured sacrum, Leipheimer was told by doctors to take some time off. After today's Leon victory Leipheimer credited his short rest break, and not racing Paris-Nice, as the reason he took what was a ultimately surprising victory. Teammate Alberto Contador finished second, 16 seconds back. American David Zabriskie (Garmin-Slipstream) finished third. Lance Armstrong, who crashed out of Leon on Monday with collar bone fracture, has returned to the US and is recovering from surgery.
