Above all, this work is about togetherness. It’s about synchrony and progress. Two pairs of high-top sneakers step forward in unison: SRAM bicycle parts power the simple mechanism. When I lived in Africa, I saw many local kids playing with handmade toys that operated with a simple push. Although the mechanism for this piece was inspired by African push-toys, the narrative suggested by the work is inspired by the goals of World Bicycle Relief, which gives people in underdeveloped regions of the world access to a better life through the gift of a bicycle.
