Future primitive mask
Materials:
SRAM parts, painted wood, nails, feathers
Dimensions:
20" w x 10" d x 10" h
Statement:
This mask combines primitive art with the futuristic aesthetics of
robotics. Primitive masks and the machined faces of robots share a
similar geometric abstraction. The faces of masks and robots are
simplified, stylized, and iconic. This mask combines these visual
similarities, creating a new object. The new mask is made of hand-carved wood and modified, machined parts. The machined parts become structural, as well as decorative elements of the mask. The new mask could be something made today or by someone in a more primitive future that appropriates the technology of the past to a new use.
