Born and educated in Detroit, Michigan, Melissa Vandenberg is now a multidisciplinary artist and curator living in eastern Kentucky. Her work has been exhibited in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, California, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. She has been the recipient of numerous grants, including a Kentucky Foundation for Women Artist Enrichment grant. Her studio practice explores national identity, folk art, ancestry and the perception of a homeland through everyday materials like fabric, stickers, wood, paper and other found objects. Melissa received her BFA from College for Creative Studies, Detroit, Michigan (1999) and a MFA in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois (2005). She is currently an Assistant Professor of Art and Director of Foundations at Eastern Kentucky University.
