Senior Software Engineer (Mobile) - Chicago, IL

Purpose: Contribute to the software engineering on new electronic product development across a variety of SRAM brands and product categories. Guide and develop new mobile-centric capabilities to interact with SRAM electronic products.

Chicago, IL

  • Design architectures and develop working application software that interfaces with embedded systems.
  • Write well designed, testable, effective code. Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures. Conduct and contribute to code reviews for software and design reviews for embedded hardware.
  • Support projects from conception through product launch within a global team setting. Work closely with team leaders and product managers to understand and refine product concepts.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with outside vendors for User Interface development and software engineering as necessary.
  • Contribute to the creation, use, and adherence to evolving standards for design rigor and verification within the company’s growing software and electrical engineering team.
  • Own, estimate, and track progress for tasks through all stages of a project to meet desired performance, cost, and time-to-market goals.
  • Serve as a lead technical resource in the selection, design, and development of
    • Native and multi-platform mobile software architectures that will allow rapid development across relevant devices
    • Application code written using a combination of native iOS, native Android, hybrid frameworks, and Python.
    • Highly reliable and intuitive user interfaces, enabling both power users and novices to interact with SRAM hardware
  • Provide supporting design documentation, including design specifications, design options, tradeoffs and choice rationale, experimental results, and tuning procedures.

  • B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with software development, including deployment of a released-to-market product and app store acceptance.
  • Solid mastery of software development tools including build management, debuggers, version control, and bug tracking.
  • iOS/Xcode or Android Studio development experience.
  • Ionic, Cordova or other hybrid mobile app development experience
  • Experience instrumenting and automating mobile app testing
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Strong interpersonal and team skills are required.


Relevant / Desired Experience:

  • Hands-on experience interfacing embedded software with mobile devices or back-end web applications.
  • Experience with App Store & Google Play Store submissions
  • Development within established agile software development methodologies and principles focusing on reusability, maintainability, minimized complexity, high cohesion and low coupling.
  • Prior technical leadership of a software development effort using an agile methodology and toolset, either as a contributing team member or as Scrummaster.
    • Prior international cross-functional team experience. Ability to travel domestically and internationally to work with a globally distributed team.
    • Algorithm-level design contributions to signal processing & control systems.
    • Design ownership involving one or more of the following technologies
      • 802.15.4 / Zigbee
      • Bluetooth / BLE / Bluetooth Smart
      • ANT personal network protocol
      • Javascript / HTML / CSS
      • Python
      • Relational databases, SQL
      • Back-end cloud solution architecture and development (Amazon AWS, Azure)
      • Linux/gcc/make development environment
  • Experience with test-driven development, continuous integration.
  • Modeling designs using UML and associated development tools; develop use cases to model real-time systems behavior.
  • Experience instrumenting applications with analytics tags / hooks
  • Experience working in a quality-driven culture, where brand reputation is made or lost based on the reliability of new products.
