Nino Schurter wins 2012 XC Elite World Championship on SRAM XX1

On Saturday, September 8th, 2012 Nino Schurter (Switzerland – Scott Swisspower) claimed his second Elite World Championship title in Saalfelden, Austria. Nino started strong and pushed hard for the entire race, consistently working his way through the rest of the field and winning nearly 30 seconds over second place. Nino adds this second Rainbow Jersey to his already impressive tally from the 2012 season which includes the World Cup overall title and a silver medal in London.
With Schurter’s victory SRAM XX1 has already conquered the most prestigious titles in XC (World Cup, World Championships and gold in London), in just over a month from its first introduction in the racing circuit. A true testament to the core value of the world’s first 1x specific MTB drivetrain: UNSTOPPABLE.
Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesja (Norway – Multivan Merida) rode aggressively in the women’s Elite race to conquer an amazing 2nd place adding an impressive result to her already stellar career.
In the first ever XC Eliminator World Championships, held on Sunday September 9th, Ralph Naef (Switzerland – Multivan Merida) and Alexandra Engen (Sweden – Ghost Factory Racing Team) were crowned the first World Champions in this discipline. Both Naef and Engen raced on XX1 crankswith X-Sync chainrings and X0 TYPE 2 rear derailleurs to complete their 1x setup.
