Craftsmanship and Creativity
The North American Handmade Bicycle Show is a can’t-miss spectacle for every type of bike aficionado. Builders spend dozens of hours working in their chosen material to craft a bike to fit the exact needs of their customers. Whatever the intended use, the results are flawlessly executed, highly tailored to the rider, and frequently rolling works of art. For the 2018 show, opening this Friday in Hartford, CT, SRAM and Zipp have partnered with several exciting builders to showcase our groundbreaking components. Some bikes will not be revealed until the show opens, but we wanted to share a preview of a few select builds below.
Tim O’Donnell of Shamrock Cycles has equipped his customer’s “straight up CX race bike” with the most popular CX drivetrain on the market: SRAM Force® 1 HRD. Not just for the cross course, this steel beauty built with Columbus tubing is ready for bigger adventures with two sets of water bottle bosses and clearance for 38mm tires. O’Donnell has made sure to incorporate every current standard as well. “Thru-axles and disc brakes are rapidly becoming ubiquitous in cross racing and moving toward flat mount keeps the back of the bike clean looking. Aesthetics count!” he said. Zipp 303 Firecrest® Tubeless Carbon Clincher Disc wheels and Service Course SL bar, stem, and seatpost complete this stunning blue build.
Dublin’s FiftyOne Bikes, the brainchild of former pro Aidan Duff, has a reputation of featuring unique, eye-popping graphics on its custom carbon steeds. For MMA superstar Conor McGregor, Duff went all out. Over a ghost pattern of his “Notorious” nickname, McGregor’s name was hand applied in 24 karat gold leaf. The carbon Zipp SL cockpit parts also receive the custom treatment, and the build is finished with the revolutionary fully wireless SRAM RED® eTap group and Zipp 454 NSW wheelset. The result is an absolute showstopper.
Come check out the newest from SRAM and Zipp, not only at our NAHBS booth, but on bikes all over the hall, February 16th-18th at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT. Stay tuned to SRAM and Zipp social media throughout the show for some special creations from other top builders, including Parlee, Enigma, Sklar, and others!
