Brent McMahon winning a big race should not be a surprise to anyone. He has performed on some of the biggest stages, against some of the most stacked fields in triathlon. And yet, he flies quietly under the radar. Except to his competition that is.

When someone has a history that includes, oh say, the Olympics, Pan Am Games, World Championships, they should always be considered a threat, and the quiet Canadian is.

This weekend’s Ironman 70.3 Kansas marked Brent’s second win at the half Ironman distance in as many weeks, after topping the steps at the Honu 70.3 last weekend, and added to his list of podiums this year. Coming from an ITU background, McMahon is known as a runner, but has found himself up at the front of these star studded races, pushing the pace on the bike as well. His bike set up consists of SRAM RED 22, RED Quarq Power Meter, and 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher up front paired with either another 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher rear, or a Super 9 Carbon Clincher Disc depending on the course.

Even though Brent has just recently moved over from the Olympic chase to the 70.3 distance, he just announced that he has his eyes set on Kona as well. He has proven that he has the tool kit to perform in the big races on the big days, so I think that it is safe to say the we will have another short course speedster to watch for in October. Brent, good luck the rest of the season, and congratulations on an outstanding start!
