Tony Martin (Omega Pharma –Quick-Step Pro Cycling) showed he is more than just the best Time-Trialist in the World!

Whereas the 2014 Tour de France only features one Time-Trial (stage 20), the three-time world champion in the discipline, Tony Martin (Omega Pharma –Quick-Step Pro Cycling) changed the rules and “created” his own TT. We all remember last year’s stage #6 at the Vuleta a España, where Tony Martin rode the entire stage solo and was caught only a few meters from the finish line. This year at the Tour de Suisse, he showed that he also a good climber.

His teammate, Michal Kwiatkowski said to "Only Tony Martin can do such things". It sums up really well his versatile talent.

On the descent of the first climb, the Col de la Schlucht, Alessandro De Marchi (Cannondale Pro Cycling) and the German rider rode away from the group. During 90km they worked very well together. But on the main difficulty of the day (Le Markstein – Category 1) nine kilometers to the top of the summit, Tony Martin who was riding the new SRAM RED 22 WiFli 11-30 cassette, dropped his companion to take his third stage victory on the Tour de France (after TT stages in 2011 & 2013). “Panzerwagen” rode the last 59km solo and no one was able to catch him, even one of the best Rouleurs in the World, Fabian Cancellara (SWI - Trek Factory Racing), who crossed the line 2:45min after Martin.

Along with the stage victory, Tony Martin took the Polka dot jersey. Simply Brilliant!
