For Chantal Blaak, the rainbow jersey is as good as gold, Amstel Gold, to be specific. The star from Boels-Dolmans Pro Cycling took a brilliant victory Sunday in the Amstel Gold Race. For Chantal, of the Netherlands, the win was especially sweet — winning a Spring Classic in her home nation while wearing the iconic rainbow stripes of the world champ.
At the beginning of the season, Blaak had set herself a goal, to race like a worthy world champion, according to a team release.
“I think I already succeeded before this victory, we had a very good spring and I have been riding well for weeks," Blaak said. "I have had some great results this spring already, but I still missed that victory. I have been waiting for that a bit. I was very focused on the Tour of Flanders, where I didn’t win myself but we did win with the team, which was great too. But going on to win the Amstel Gold Race, that's just great.”
Chantal rode SRAM RED eTap HRD, a Quarq DZero power meter, ZIpp 303 Firecrest Disc-brake wheels, and Zipp handlebar and stem.
Boels-Dolmans Pro Cycling is the top ranked women's UCI WorldTour team.
