17 victories out of 18 starts for Eli Iserbyt on SRAM Force CX1
Belgian cyclocross racer Eli Iserbyt, 17, has compiled an amazing record this cyclocross season – 17 victories in 18 starts. After his European Junior title in November, this Sunday he became - for the second time - Belgian Junior Champion. “This year, the most important win was the European Championship, but the most emotional was the Belgian Championship last year - an unexpected win near my hometown,” Eli said. “All my friends and family were there. That made it very special to me.”
Eli raced to the top of the podium again and again aboard his SRAM Force CX1 drivetrain. The race conditions, with a lot of mud and a slippery terrain, were tough for rider and machine. “When I crossed the finish line in Erpe it was just a big relief. The course was very hard with relentless rain and deep mud. It was one of the hardest races this season and I was happy I finished without mechanic problems,” Eli said. “The first time I saw the SRAM Force CX1 I was a bit scared about how it would work. But after the first training camp I was in love with it. I could ride up hills that I would have never been able to go up without the CX1. It reacts well in deep mud and is powerful on the fast courses.”
Despite his young age Eli is experience and can manage the pressure. “I like riding my bike and I just want to have fun,” he said. “Of course, I like winning and from the beginning I started the race with the intention to win.”
Not surprisingly, many see him as a future Junior World Champion. “My main goal for this season was to get one jersey, but now I'm in the lead of Superprestige and the World cup series! Now my goal is certainly to win one of them and a good result at the Worlds, of course. I know that it's a pretty big deal to compete in the big races but the pressure is most of the time at school.
“The Worlds in Tabor is indeed the major race of this season. Last year, I rode in Tabor as first year Junior and finished second. It was one of the best results for me in 2013-14. So the course is surely one I like.”
Good wishes to him at the UCI Cyclocross World Championship and for the rest of the season!
