SRAM XD® & XDR® Driver Bodies Explained

A Versatile Cassette Mounting Platform for Everyone

XD and XDR rear hub driver bodies establish universal mounting systems for cassettes that incorporate cogs with fewer than 11 teeth for more versatile drivetrains. The interfaces make light weight wide-range cassettes possible without requiring new rear axle standards, hub redesigns, or even new cassette tools.

The XD interface is designed for mountain bike applications and maintains the same hub spacing and flange locations used for 8, 9, and 10-speed compatible HyperGlide freehub bodies.

The XDR interface is 1.85mm longer than XD and is designed for road hub applications. XDR maintains the same hub spacing and flange locations used for 11-speed road compatible HyperGlide freehub bodies. XDR driver bodies are compatible with all XD cassettes when the cassette is installed with a 1.85mm spacer behind it.

SRAM offers the use of XD and XDR interfaces and trademarks to companies that conform to the technical specifications of the designs and agree to abide by the terms of our license agreement. Currently, 170+ companies have been granted licenses to make hubs and wheelsets that incorporate either XD or XDR drivers, making them the most widely adopted 10-tooth start freehub body designs in the cycling world.XD Driver

XD Driver

The XD driver body interface provides better axle support via bearing location, a secure cassette interface that eliminates driver body spline marring, and allows for expanded cassette range and lower weight with 10 tooth start cassettes.

  • More stable hub connection means better axle and bearing durability
  • Improved cassette/driver interface: cassette will not cut into aluminum driver splines over time
  • XD driver is 6-8g lighter
  • 10-tooth cog compatibility allows for expanded cassette range
  • Available from more than 250 wheel and hub manufacturers
  • Cassettes are still installed and removed using standard tools and practices

XDR Driver

The XDR driver is 1.85mm longer than an XD driver. Made for Road specific 11-speed rear wheels; it occupies the same space as an 11-speed HyperGlide road driver. The XDR driver allows XD cassettes that are part of SRAM’s 1x road and MTB groups to be installed on a wheel that is spaced and dished for 11-speed road HyperGlide freehubs when used with a 1.85mm spacer behind the cassette.

  • 1.85mm longer than XD Driver to properly fit on 11-speed road HyperGlide hubs
  • More stable hub connection means better axle and bearing durability
  • Improved cassette/driver interface: cassette will not cut into aluminum driver over time
  • XDR Driver is 6-8g lighter
  • 10-tooth cog compatibility allows for expanded cassette range
  • Licensed to more than 80 wheel and hub manufacturers
  • Cassettes are still installed and removed using standard tools and practices.
