World Bicycle Relief empowers communities in rural regions around the world to thrive with life-changing bicycles. They are a catalyst for change, helping people in need realize their goals by providing a tool that will support them to access education, markets, health facilities and vital services they need to thrive.

Compared to walking, bicycles increase carrying capacity and distance traveled while decreasing travel times. They are a simple, sustainable tool used to bridge the gap between needs and resources, empowering individuals, families and entire communities to thrive.

World Bicycle Relief was founded in 2005 by F.K. Day, Co-Founder of SRAM, and Leah Missbach Day in response to the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. With the support of SRAM and other bicycle industry leaders, World Bicycle Relief partnered with aid organizations in Sri Lanka to distribute over 24,000 bicycles reconnecting displaced survivors with access to education, healthcare and livelihood.

Now operating in more than 21 countries around the world, World Bicycle Relief is closing in on its goal to reach 1 million bicycles and empower 5 million people by 2025.
