In this episode, we welcome Zipp senior design engineer Mike Vittorio for one of our most useful and informative tech discussions yet. Mike goes into detail on the feature and design of Zipp’s new generation of wheels featuring Hookless technology and our Total System Efficiency design approach. From there, he talks about how riders should go about selecting the best tubeless tire for their riding style, including information on tire widths and compatibility.

This episode includes specific examples of rider weights, tire widths, and tire pressures for front and rear wheels. Toward the end of the episode, Mike digs back into the science and reveals the counterintuitive science behind speed gains through wider tubeless pressures run at lower pressures. He then explains why, conversely, we still see high pressures run on the velodrome. We end with Mike telling about his how bike-tech “journey” and what he’s learned in his five years of riding and designing Zipp wheels.
