SPINDLE-BASED POWER METER SETUP

Grab your bike, smart phone, and cycling computer and complete the following steps.

STEP 1: UPDATE FIRMWARE

First, let’s connect to the SRAM AXS App, add the power meter to your bike profile, and check your power meter’s firmware, so it’s ready for setup calibration.

TECH TIP: When connecting to the AXS App, make sure your phone has good signal and is not connected to any other Bluetooth devices, enable Bluetooth in the phone settings for the app, then connect to your power meter.

STEP 2: CALIBRATE

Now that your firmware is current, we can perform the Setup Calibration in the app. Perform the Setup Calibration before your first ride, after installing a new bottom bracket on your bike, or swapping your SRAM crankset to a new frame. Calibration will ensure maximum accuracy, accounting for the subtle differences between bike frames and bottom brackets.

Perform Manual Zero calibration before every ride to ensure you’re getting the most accurate power data. It’s simple to do with a compatible cycling computer or the AXS App.

STEP 3: PAIR TO A BIKE COMPUTER

Get the most out of your power meter by pairing it with an ANT+ cycling computer to understand your efforts in real-time or save the data and track your progress. Once connected, you'll receive live power meter data right on your screen. For optimal performance, try pairing with Hammerhead Karoo 2. Reach out to your computer manufacturer for compatibility and display info.

BATTERY STATUS

Every Force power meter is powered by an easily replaceable battery. Check your battery status in just a few seconds, and if needed, swap it in a few minutes.

AXS spindle-based power meters

With a replaceable lithium AAA battery inside the spindle, you'll ride worry-free with 400+ ride hours of battery life and easy battery checks. To check the status, watch the LED on the non-drive side spindle while waking your power meter with a half-turn backpedal. If the LED flashes red, it’s time to change the battery.

TECH TIP: Only use lithium AAA batteries, not alkaline, in your spindle-based power meter. This ensures consistent operation, maximum battery life, and prevents corrosion.

AXS spider-based power meters

With approximately 200 hours of battery life from a single CR2032 coin cell battery, you’ll get lots of ride time from your unit. To check the status, watch the LED on the crank spider while waking your power meter with a half-turn backpedal. If the LED flashes red, it’s time to change the battery.

TECH TIP: Some batteries have a child-safe bitter coating. This coating interferes with SRAM battery contacts and is not compatible with SRAM power meters.

TRAINING TOOLS

While SRAM’s AXS Web provides component data that other training tools can’t, many indoor and outdoor training tools can help you train and interpret power meter metrics. These training tools offer more benefits than we can list. For more info, check out their websites and apps.

INDOOR TRAINING WITH POWER

Your power meter can make a standard indoor trainer smart by allowing you to capture power and cadence data and then transmit it to your cycling computer. Or connect directly to a Bluetooth-compatible device, like an iPad, while using the Zwift app. If you do have a smart trainer, capture power data from your power meter rather than your trainer to keep your data consistent from outside to inside.
