Vancouver Island native Stevie Smith (Devinci) won the Pro GRT #1 at the NW Cup in Port Angeles, WA this past weekend. The NW Cup, now in it’s 5th year, is the premier downhill race series in the Pacific Northwest. Smith battled fellow World Cup athletes including Aaron Gwin, Mick Hannah, Greg Minnaar and more through the dark and dense tree lined course under traditional northwest overcast skies. He raged through the course in true Steve Smith form and took advantage of the fast, technical and delightfully tacky course winning Saturday’s semi-finals. Riding high on Saturday’s result Smith confidently repeated during the men’s finals Sunday afternoon snagging the win with two seconds to spare over Aaron Gwin.
