First Firsts for Courdurier and Dailly in Enduro World Series
SRAM athletes come out on top at Shimano Enduro Tasmania.
Isabeau Courdurier has been knocking on the door of an Enduro World Series victory for more than a year now. This past weekend in Tasmania, Australia, she broke through for her first EWS event win.
Courdurier, whose ‘worst’ outings in the 2016 season were 3rd place finishes, didn’t exactly start the 2017 EWS on a high note, as illness forced her to DNF at the opening round in Rotorua, New Zealand. So, the win Australia came as a bit of a surprise.
“I was just expecting to finish this race, that’s it,” explained the 2016 EWS runner-up overall. “But I had so much fun riding down, and, like, rode quite fast.
Additionally, Courdurier comes from the south of France, where the gnarly wet conditions the riders faced in Tasmania are mostly unheard of.
“I’ve been riding like maybe three times under the rain this winter, that’s it,” Courdurier added. “But I was just enjoying staying calm and having some nice lines.”
Courdurier rode her SRAM X01 Eagle™, SRAM Guide Ultimate brakes and RockShox Lyrik, RockShox Monarch Plus RC3 and Reverb Stealth with 1x remote equipped Sunn to five stage victories (out of seven) on the way to the overall win.The 2016 Enduro World Series champion and 2017 Giant Toa Enduro winner Cécile Ravanel followed just a few handfuls of seconds behind Isabeau to finish 2nd place. Though not the result to which the Commencal Vallnord rider has grown accustomed, Ravanel holds a commanding lead on the series overall with now six rounds left to on the schedule.
As in New Zealand, Ravanel’s Commencal was equipped with a SRAM X01 Eagle™ drivetrain, Guide Ultimate brakes, RockShox Lyrik fork, Super Deluxe Coil RT Remote shock and a Reverb Stealth with 1x remote.
Canyon Factory Enduro Team rider Ines Thoma rounded out the SRAM/RockShox sweep of the women’s podium. Thoma, who ended the 2016 EWS season in 4th place overall, now sits in 2nd, with a runner-up in New Zealand and the 3rd in Australia.
There was a breakthrough performance on the men’s side, too. Adrien Dailly, racing for Lapierre Gravity Republic, also bagged his very first Elite Enduro World Series win. Dailly is no stranger to victory at EWS events, having won the overall series title in the Under 21 class for the past two years in a row — and collecting 11 wins in 16 races in the process. But perhaps no one, including the young French rider, thought he’d find the top step of the podium in the Elite class this quickly, especially in the brutal conditions in Tasmania.
“I was already surprised by my result in Rotorua,” Dailly explained, about his 7th place finish at EWS Round 1. “So, I am super surprised by my result here.”
Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that Dailly didn’t even know where he sat in the standings going into the final stages. “I just ride,” he said. Dailly currently leads the series.
Dailly’s Lapierre was equipped with a SRAM X01 Eagle™ drivetrain, SRAM Roam 60 front and Roam 50 rear wheels, Guide Ultimate brakes, a RockShox Lyrik fork, RockShox Super Deluxe Coil RCT shock and Reverb Stealth with 1x remote.
The ever-popular Sam Hill, riding SRAM X01 Eagle™, SRAM Guide Ultimate brakes, a RockShox Lyrik, RockShox Super Deluxe Coil RCT shock and Reverb Stealth with 1x remote, capped the SRAM/RockShox podium charge with a 3rd place finish, putting him 3rd overall in the series, and well within striking distance for the title.
