This year’s UCI Road World Championships confirmed excellence and produced a new star of women’s cycling. In Saturday’s Elite Women’s Road Race in Doha, Qatar, Amalie Diderksen (Denmark – Boels-Dolmans Pro Cycling) unleashed a powerful sprint and then perfectly timed her bike throw to win by millimeters. The 20-year-old Dane, a two-time junior world champ in 2013 and 2014, will now wear the rainbow jersey for the Elite Women.

The first to congratulate the young Dane after the line? Defending champ Lizzie Deignan (Great Britain – Boels-Dolmans). This marks the second straight year the world road title was won by a Boels-Dolmans athlete.

In the Elite Women’s Individual Time Trial, Ellen van Dijk (NED – Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team) took silver. The current European Champion, and 2013 World Champion, was only six seconds outside of gold.

In the women’s team time trial earlier in the week, Boels Dolmans Cycling Team and CANYON//SRAM Racing Team produced an intensely heated battle. With temperatures averaging over 38°C (100 °F) the conditions pushed every rider and team to their physical limits. The Dutch team took a conservative approach to the 40km time trial and did not seize the lead until well past the halfway point, eventually winning by :48 seconds.  CANYON//SRAM had won the women’s team time trial title every one of its first four years, including last year’s narrow victory over Boels-Dolmans.

Both Boels-Dolmans and Canyon//SRAM are equipped with the full gamut of SRAM RED eTap and mechanical groupsets, Zipp wheels, and Quarq power meters. Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team also rides Zipp bars, stems and seatpost.
