SRAM is honored to receive the Legacy Award at the fourth annual National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) awards banquet – Held yearly to recognize and celebrate NICA’s outstanding student-athletes, dedicated coaches, and passionate volunteer community that support the high school mountain biking revolution. Founded in 2009, NICA develops high school mountain biking programs for coaches and student-athletes across the United States. NICA provides leadership, services and governance for local leagues to produce quality mountain bike events, and supports every student-athlete in the development of strong body, strong mind and strong character through their efforts on the bike. As of early 2014, NICA is supporting over 1,200 coaches and 3,400 student-athletes from over 300 high schools in ten separate leagues.

“With a long-history in the cycling world, SRAM has pushed the industry forward both with innovative products and designs but also in advocating for and supporting creative efforts to expand cycling opportunities,” said NICA Executive director Austin McInerny. “It is our honor to recognize SRAM with the NICA Legacy Award for their tremendous philanthropic support of our efforts to grow youth cycling across the United States. SRAM understands the importance of empowering youth through sport and we are fortunate to work with them. Simply, NICA would not be where it is today without the encouragement and support from SRAM."

SRAM’s John Dawson, in accepting the award, said, “We at SRAM recognized the tremendous potential of NICA, and in my dealings with this organization I personally have been fortunate to spend time with many great people. One of the great motivators for us at SRAM is helping young athletes to realize their dreams, be these just finishing their first race, making a national team, or becoming a world champion.”

SRAM will continue to support NICA’s amazing efforts remaining a Platinum level sponsor in 2014 and beyond. To find out more on how you can contribute to NICA you can visit their website HERE.
