Trentin Takes the Photo!
Matteo Trentin’s photo finish win on stage seven was the closest of the 2014 Tour. The Italian from Omega-Pharma-Quick-Step left everything at the line in a perfectly timed and powerful match sprint against Cannondale Pro Cycling’s Peter Sagan. It was Trentin’s second Tour victory on a day when then the thoroughbreds were left behind after two category 2 climbs.
While both rider’s are equipped with SRAM RED 22, it was the Italian’s patience, and perhaps Czech Republic rider’s earlier effort, made the difference at the line. The finish for the OPQS was the perfect prescription after the team lost supersprinter Mark Cavendish in a stage one pile-up.
Cannondale’s Sagan maintains his green jersey points lead.
