Since 1986, Mikel Frank has been employed at The Metropolitan Museum of Art as Stage Manager. Mikel has worked on Museum video productions and other electronic media productions including the award-winning Connections series where he provided sound engineering services and was one of the presenters.
He has coordinated and stage managed such events as Kathleen Battle at the Metropolitan Museum in the Temple of Dendur in the Sackler Wing, a concert that was transmitted live via satellite to Japan and made into a video with worldwide distribution; Christmas with Chanticleer: An Orchestra of Voices, A co-production of Thirteen/WNET New York, KQED Public Television 9, San Francisco and Chanticleer.
He has coordinated and worked on stage productions at the Met Museum with such talents as Ringo Starr, Tony Bennett, Steve Miller, Yo Yo Ma, Sam Waterston, Richard Dreyfus, Patti Smith, Leslie Gore, Richie Havens, Isabella Rossellini, Joanne Woodward, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Chuck Close, Richard Serra, and Robert Rauschenberg, to name a few.
Mikel holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. He has exhibited in shows and competitions throughout the country, and his work is in many private collections.
Since April 2002, he has been the leader of an artist critique group called The Contemporary Artists Forum. He has been curator of the annual Contemporary Artists Forum Exhibition since it’s inception in 2002. He also sits on the Executive Board of the 1978 Maplewood Arts Center, Maplewood, New Jersey and is the vice president and co-chair of the exhibitions committee.
In February 2005, Mikel was a member of the installation crew on Christo’s “Gates Project in Central Park, 1975-2005,” in New York City.
In 2011 Mikel embarked on a new creative project that involves collaborating with artist and filmmaker Gerard Amsellem. Their first work took place in April 2011 and was entitled, The Passing: A Collaboration.
In July 2012, at the 1978 Maplewood Arts Center, Maplewood, New Jersey, Mikel and Gerard will transform the gallery with a collaborative art installation called The Visual Passion: ON LOVE.
