Alberto Contador (Tinkoff Saxo) wins the Vuelta a España with 11 stages in RED jersey and a stage victory

Alberto Contador’s victory in this year’s Vuelta a España is confirmation of his determination, talent and willingness to embrace innovation. After having to drop out of this year’s Tour de France because of injury, Contador set his sights on his home nation’s Grand Tour, the Vuelta. On their way to victory, he and his Tinkoff Saxo teammates also relied on SRAM RED 22 componentry to succeed on all types of terrain. RED 22 provides lightweight and ergonomic components with fast and precise shifting and a wide range of gearing. For the challenging terrain of the Vuelta, Contator and teammates chose the RED 22 WiFLi mid-cage rear derailleur and cassettes from 11-25 to 11-30. Our WiFLi (Wider, Faster, Lighter) technology found its origin at the Giro 2008 (stage #16 – 25% gradient) where SRAM custom built Contador a rear derailleur and a cassette with a wider gear range. SRAM is proud to support Contador on WiFLi to his third Vuelta and sixth Grand Tour victory.
