IN A LEAGUE OF HIS OWN
Four races, Four victories for Wout van Aert
Wout van Aert (Vastgoedservice-Golden Palace) started his Cyclocross season with a powerful victory at CrossVegas, the first World Cup of the season. Since then he keeps adding victories in the Elite category. While he is only 21-years-old, Wout demonstrated a knowledge of race tactics beyond his years.
U23 World Champion, Elite World cup and BPost Bank Trofee winner, surprisingly Wout van Aert had never won any Superprestige races in the Elite category before this weekend. Now he’s done it with style and control. Wout launched his first attack with six laps to go. Only two riders, David van der Poel (BKCP-Corendon) and Lars Van der Haar (Giant-Alpecin) were able to hold his wheel. On the sandy and technical section of the eighth lap, Wout increased the pace and dropped his last competitor to take the win.
Wout van Aert has several bikes with different equipment. The one he was racing in Gieten was built up with SRAM RED 22 and Avid Shorty Ultimate Brakes. Wout's gearing set up consisted of a RED 22 Exogram crankset with 46/36 chainrings and an 11-28t PG-1170 cassette. For other select races he will ride SRAM Force 1 with Hydraulic Disc Brakes. Wout makes choices based on the type of race, the terrain and the weather conditions. SRAM is proud to provide him the choice.
The Superprestige series consists of eight races, the first one in the Netherlands (Gieten) and the seven others in Belgium. The next big race for Wout van Aert will be next weekend, the Bpost Bank Trofee #1 in Ronse (Belgium).
