ROAM to WIN
Anka Martin wins Trans-Provence, Jerome Clementz finishes 2nd after six days in the lead.
Anka Martina (Juliana Bicycles) won the 2013 Trans-Provence this past weekend, taking the lead early in the race and never looking back. Competitors set out on six days of racing involving over 15,000 meters of descending and 10,000 meters of climbing on some of the toughest trails in Europe. Trans-Provence is regarded as the ultimate multi-day Enduro stage race with it's never seen before terrain where the riders are given no chance for training or pre-riding before the race. Many riders, from downhill World Champions to XC World Cup podium finishers, regard it as one of the ultimate challenges one can do on a bike. With minimal chances for technical support, and barely time to eat and sleep between each racing day, Trans-Provence is also the ultimate test for bikes and equipment, and the first ever victory for the new SRAM Roam 50 wheels. In addition to these Anka raced on the proven, enduro-dominating package of SRAM XX1, RockShox Pike, Monarch Plus and Reverb, Avid X0 Trail brakes and TRUVATIV cockpit.
Clementz finishes 2nd after six days leading the field.
In the men’s field Jerome Clementz, winner in 2011 and recently crowned Enduro World Series Champion, took the lead early in the week only to lose in the final day by merely one second. A true testament to the incredible level of today’s Enduro competitors, showing just how tight the racing was even after a week and several hours of timed special stages. -Photo by Sven Martin
Mention of honor goes to Cannondale Factory Racing’s XC athletes Anton Cooper and Manuel Fumic, who finished 7th and 12th in their first Trans-Provence experience, and our friend and world class photographer Sven Martin, 15th overall and winner of the men’s 40+ class (in addition to bringing you the beautiful photos you see here).
