An exciting Stage 19 into Saint Gervais Mont-Blanc, France, was won by 25 year-old Frenchman Romain Bardet (AG2R LA MONDIALE). Bardet confidently stated he would be ahead of the others at the base of the final climb, and it was there where he catapulted himself across to stage leader Rui Costa (Movistar Team). As the finish approached Bardet soloed away for his first stage win of 2016, and the second of his career.
Overall, Bardet has leapt up the standings to second, 16 seconds ahead of Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team). Bardet said he will continue to ignite the Tour de France on the climbs, and will have a prime opportunity during Saturday’s penultimate stage 20.
Bardet rode SRAM RED® WiFLi™ and Zipp® 303 Firecrest® Tubular wheels.
