CLEAN IS FAST AND LASTS

Cleaning will extend your drivetrain’s lifespan while ensuring you get the best performance ride after ride. Your Apex AXS IPX7 waterproof rating means it is built to withstand creek crossings, rain, and routine cleaning.

BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS

Brake pads and rotors only take a minute to check every few rides. Conditions and pad compound will affect overall pad life. Grit and grime between the braking surfaces will accelerate wear. Replace brake pads if the total thickness of pad and backing is thinner than 3mm and replace rotors when they measure 1.55mm thick, or less.

All Apex AXS brakes ship with organic pads for the best modulation and quietest braking. Metal sintered pads are a great option for riders in gritty and wet conditions where organic pads may wear more quickly. If you change pad compounds, change the rotors at the same time to prevent noise and ensure the best braking.

Apex AXS brakes are compatible with any series of SRAM road rotor: CenterLine, CenterLine X, and Paceline.

TECH TIP: When replacing rotors, replace the pads as well. Then perform the brake bed-in procedure to gain the most stopping power, reduced brake noise, and long-lasting performance. Avoid handling the pads and rotors with bare hands to prevent contamination of the braking surface and only clean with isopropyl alcohol and a clean rag.

BRAKE BLEED

Brake bleeds refresh the DOT brake fluid in your system. We recommend bleeding brakes once a year to purge any air or moisture in the system, keeping the boiling point at its maximum.

TECH TIP: Using a fresh bottle of DOT 5.1 brake fluid will provide the best results. DOT 5.1 is regulated and can be found at most car, motorcycle, or bike shops.

CONTROLLER BATTERIES

Controller batteries can last two years or more depending on how often you shift. Apex AXS shifters use a standard CR2032 battery secured by a battery cover located under the hydraulic brake hoods. Using quality brand name batteries without a child-safe bitter coating increases lifespan and improves battery status accuracy.

TECH TIP: When your Apex AXS drivetrain is connected to your bike computer, you can view your controller and derailleur battery status right on your screen. Easily check on your battery health in real-time on the Hammerhead Karoo 2.

FIRMWARE UPDATES

Updating firmware improves aspects of your AXS system, like extending battery life. Each AXS component has its own firmware, so use the AXS app to check the status of every part in your bike profile to get the most from your components.

Use the latest version of the app to access the most current features, like in-app MicroAdjust and Wireless Blip compatibility.

TECH TIP: Make sure your mobile device has Bluetooth enabled and has a strong cellular or Wi-Fi connection when performing firmware updates.

CHECK FOR CHAIN WEAR

Chains will wear differently depending on ride conditions and cleaning habits, so you’ll want to measure wear with an approved tool and replace your chain when wear is greater than 0.8%.

TECH TIP: When replacing a chain, be sure to size it correctly for optimal shift performance and chain retention.
