ISSUE 004
LA THUILE

La Thuile made its mark with an XCO debut as the most technically demanding track riders have faced in a long time. Enduro drew a massive crowd for the night stage, RockShox swept both the Elite Women's XCC and DH podiums, and affogatos were served between rounds of foosball. Vali Höll and Jenny Rissveds clamped down on their points leads heading into Andorra, where Amaury once again dons the number 1. Already at the halfway point, and what a first half it's been — a half of firsts.

THE FIRST HALF AND FIRSTS SO FAR

  • Luca Shaw's first Elite DH win — Loudenvielle
  • Sina Frei's first Elite XCO win — South Korea
  • Savilia Blunk's first Elite XCC win — Lenzerheide
  • Adrien Boichis' first Elite XCO win — Leogang
  • Adrien Boichis' first Elite XCC win — Lenzerheide
  • Bjorn Riley's first Elite XCO podium — Leogang
  • Bjorn Riley's first Elite XCC podium — Lenzerheide
  • Lisa Baumann's first Elite DH podium — Loudenvielle
  • Ryan Pinkerton's first P1 in qualifying
  • Vali Holl (DH) and Jenny Rissveds (XCO) first in the overall but not for the first time.

GRILL MASTER: EMILLY JOHNSTON

"Every Canadian knows Nickelback isn't that bad — and it turns out they can get you pretty fired up for World Cup XCC/XCO too. At least, Emilly Johnston of Scott-SRAM MTB Racing Team thinks so. Emilly presents her playlist, Grill Master, full of hits from Chad and the boys to set the tone for grill night and race night alike"

CIAO FROM ITALY!

7 out of 10 World Cup Elite DH winners this season were riding Ochain — proof that when the terrain gets rowdiest and the margins are thinnest, the fastest riders in the world are choosing Ochain.

But Ochain isn't just a DH tool. On mid and short-travel trail bikes, where there's less travel and wider gear ranges, riders often feel more of what's happening at the pedals — what we call pedal feedback. And that's where Ochain makes the biggest difference.

Ochain Spider and riders winning on ochain

What is pedal feedback? It's described as the trail noise that reverberates through your feet, from your suspension, drivetrain, or even your own body weight. Dive into the causes of pedal feedback: pedal kickback, cassette back-slap, and rear wheel lock-up.

NEXT STOP: ANDORRA

The dust is still settling in La Thuile and riders are already in Andorra, resting their legs before another race at altitude. The Alps have been replaced by the Pyrenees, grazie swapped for gracias, and riders will face far less steep terrain but much higher speeds. Race tactics aren’t just for riders here, with a slanted paved paddock, some mechanics need to rotate their work stations to keep the wear and tear even. Home to Commencal, all eyes turn to their star-studded lineup: Amaury Pierron carrying the number 1, Loris Vergier, and Vali Höll — who claimed a World Championship title on this very track — not to mention rising star Lisa Baumann, who has been a fraction off the win two weekends running. We’re excited to see our athletes carry their momentum into another incredible weekend of relentless competition, showcasing what’s possible when talent, determination, and performance come together on the biggest stage in mountain biking.
