7:35:39 is the new World Record!

In front of 250,000 spectators, the 2008 Olympic Champion and reigning Ironman and 70.3 World Champion cracked the long course World Record by 5:56 minutes.

Jan Frodeno’s #project740 became #project735 after completing the 3.8km swim in 45:22, 180km ride in 4:08:07 and 42km run in 2:39:18 at Challenge Roth.

Frodissimo was aiming for the fastest time in the world on a long distance triathlon at Challenge Roth with a time of seven hours and forty minutes (#project740). He trained every day with that quest in mind.

From start to finish, Jan led the race. When he jumped on his SRAM RED eTap-equipped Canyon SpeedMax CF SLX bike, he was already one minute faster than Andreas Raelert’s 2011 record. He was flying on the two-loop bike course, even on the famous Solarberg Hill, and extended his lead to 12:30 over his competitors.

Then the question was “Can he keep up?” on the run. The answer came quickly as he didn’t have any downtime along the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal. Before his euphoric stadium finish, he completely enjoyed the crowd.

SRAM has proudly supported Frodeno since 2008. For years he has been part of our product testing, including SRAM RED® eTap ®, on which he became Ironman and 70.3 World Champion, and now World Record holder.
