In a race that challenged competitors with varied conditions that included a swim in warm water (24 °C or 75 °F) and a cool bike and run (10-15 °C, 50-59 °F), Sebastian Kienle and Melissa Hauschildt challenged the elements and their competitors to each bring home the title of Ironman® European Champions.

Both competitors’ race bikes are equipped with SRAM® RED® eTap® drivetrains, Zipp wheels, and Quarq power measurement. Kienle, the 2014 European Champ, had the fastest bike split of the day with fellow SRAM athlete and eventual second place finisher Andi Böcherer following in trail. In the women’s race, Hauschidt finished the bike in third place, arriving strong at the run where she battled her way to the win.

Both athletes plan to build on this success as they prepare for the Ironman® World Championships in Kona in October.Sebastian Kienle. Photo © Ingo Kutsche
