The Evolution of Better Braking

It’s been stated, demonstrated, and proven but put simply SRAM’s road hydraulic systems provide better braking control and performance in all conditions.

In 2014, we introduced four complete hydraulic road (HydroR) groupsets featuring a broad complement of hydraulic braking options for both rim and disc brake bikes. Each delivering on the promise of braking confidence and security that brings speed control and stability to a new level.


Lever Body - The SRAM HydroR lever body design has an improved internal architecture and material placement around the reservoir and master cylinder bore, which is all about improving consistency and performance.

Bleed Port - The bleed port design offers a simple interface for setting up and bleeding the brakes.

Master Cylinder - At the core of the MY15 hydraulic road brakes is a new master cylinder piston. With incredible amounts of testing behind it, it has improved performance and consistency, especially in extreme temperatures.

High Capacity Bladder - A higher capacity bladder is the primary fluid compensating device for pad wear.

Caliper Spring - The caliper spring is a small part that plays a big role. The HydroR spring spreads the pads more effectively and maintaining consistent rollback and contact point.

Shift Paddle - The MY15 HydroR paddle design has reduced material on the blade, lightening the shift lever and providing better finger clearance—a nice feature in colder cyclocross season temperatures when thicker gloves are required.

In mid-2016, SRAM introduced a new hydraulic road disc brake platform—HydroHC. HydroHC will be available exclusively on SRAM RED eTap in October 2016. Stay tuned for more details on this platform.
