SRAM’s Cyclocross Stars and Parts - 2014/15
Raising Performance and Rising Stars
As our collective attention turn to ‘cross, SRAM has a number of exciting stories to tell. The first is our proud sponsorship of many of the top stars of CX, and the complementary tale that is a range of new componentry designed around their specific needs.
For the 2014/15 season SRAM will continue to partner with many of the world’s best, including World Champion Zdenek Stybar (Omega Pharma-Quick-Step), US Champion Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus Racing), former British National Champion Nikki Harris, ‘cross legend Bart Wellens, and World Cup winner Tom Meeussen (all Telenet-Fidea).
SRAM also remains focused on the future with rising stars U23 World Champion Wout Van Aert (Vastgoedservice- Golden Palace Cycling Team), Elle Anderson (KDL Cycling Team), Danny Summerhill (Edge/Felt) and US U23 Champion Logan Owen (California Giant/Specialized).
Their componentry of choice is SRAM Force CX1, which is the evolution of SRAM’s innovative 1x (one-by) single chainring drivetrain perfected in MTB. The system relies on the X-Horizon™ rear derailleur, featuring a clutch, paired with the X-SYNC™ chainring. The combination creates a system that delivers better chain management and smooth shifting no matter the conditions or terrain. It is the only true drivetrain built specifically for cyclocross.
SRAM’s new HydroR™ hydraulic disc brakes deliver better control and confidence with a improvements that provide more power, better modulation, and less hand effort in a more comfortable, lighter and refined system.
The combination of CX1 and HydroR provide the perfect synergy of optimized gearing and powerful and perfectly modulated stopping. Every SRAM sponsored cyclocross rider will have a SRAM Force CX1 equipped bike and the majority of those will be racing HydroR brakes.
“This year will be the first time I will ride a production groupset that is purpose built for cyclocross. SRAM continues to innovate in new ways, even subtle ways, and develop product that is exactly what I need. Even better, it’s super quiet,” stated Jeremy Powers.
“My first impression is that CX1 awesome! The derailleur is really strong and stable, the new set-up of the cassette takes a little bit to get used to, but it works in every circumstance. It will change your way of riding and you no longer have to decide if you need the big or the small chainring,” said U23 World Champion Wout Van Aert.
“We feel as though cyclocross is our home turf and sponsorship is in our DNA. The combination allows us to showcase a list of cyclocross stars like we have for 2014/15. With the addition of SRAM CX1, as well as the hydraulic brake options, we can further cater to their specific riding preferences,” Jason Phillips, European Road Sport Marketing Manager.
