Stanford sprints to Victory
Welsh triathlete Non Stanford took her first victory since 2013 with an impressive late-race kick in the final kilometer of last weekend’s World Triathlon Series Cape Town (South Africa).
Stanford, the 2013 World Champion, sped away late in the 5km run for a 7 second victory ahead of Jodie Stimpson and 10 seconds ahead of third place Flora Duffy. The sprint distance (500 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run) is famously intense from start to the finish. For the crucial bike leg, Stanford rode a SRAM RED eTap equipped bike to set up her winning move in the run. Her promising season debut means Stanford is one to watch as Rio approaches.
