WELCOME TO YOUR NEW SUSPENSION

We’re glad you’re here. Whether you’re a suspension setup pro or you’re brand new to mountain biking, we’ve got you covered. Suspension setup is specific to each rider, their style, where they ride, and can change based on each of those variables. We’ve put together a streamlined setup process to help you hit the trail faster—then once you’ve gotten a few rides in, we’ll dive into the how, why, and when to make adjustments in our Suspension Fine Tuning Guide.

Choose your component for an initial setup guide:

01. Initial compression settings

MY23+ ULTIMATE/SELECT+
Make sure that your High Speed Compression(HSC) and Low Speed Compression (LSC) knobs are in the middle (0) setting.

MY23+ SELECT/BASE
Make sure your Compression knob is in the middle setting.

ALL OTHER SUSPENSION
Rotate the Compression knob(s) to the fully Open position.

02. Initial air spring setup

Scan the QR code on your fork’s crown, enter your serial number into the TrailHead app or check out the chart on the fork’s lower leg to get a starting air pressure suggestion.

ROCKSHOX TRAILHEAD APP

Remove the air valve cap and thread on the shock pump. Add or remove air depending on the recommended starting pressure and remove the shock pump.

03. Set initial rebound

Adjust the Rebound knob based on the TrailHead suggestion—the suggested setting is the number of clicks from Closed or slowest position, indicated by the turtle icon. This is just a starting point.

04. Air spring equalization

Slowly compress the fork a few times—around 25-30% of its travel—to equalize air pressure between the positive and negative chambers. You may hear a brief hiss as air transfers between the chambers.

Attach the shock pump and re-pressurize the air spring to the suggested starting point. The pressure can drop as the air moves into the negative chamber during equalization, requiring you to re-pressurize the air spring until you get to the right pressure.

Move the red o-ring against the rubber wiper seal. This will indicate how much travel you’ve used during your ride, which tells you if your suspension is set up correctly. Ideally, you use most of your travel while riding—occasional bottom outs on bigger impacts is normal.

GO RIDE!

Start on an easily repeatable trail that you ride often to get the best idea of how the fork feels after initial setup.

01. Initial compression settings

Make sure your Threshold lockout is unlocked (if you have it) and your Compression settings (including both High and Low Speed Compression if you have them) are the middle (0) setting.

02. Initial air spring setup

Enter your serial number into the TrailHead app to get a starting air pressure and Rebound suggestion.

04. Air spring equalization

Slowly cycle the rear shock 5-8 times—around 15% of its travel, or 35% for Vivid Air—to equalize air pressure between the positive and negative chambers. You may hear a brief hiss as air transfers between the chambers.

Attach the shock pump and re-pressurize the air spring to the suggested starting point. The pressure can drop as the air moves into the negative chamber during equalization, requiring you to re-pressurize the air spring until you get to the right pressure.
