EASY MAINTENANCE

With some basic know-how, maintenance is easier than ever. Learn how extend your component’s lifetime, rebuild your derailleur, swap chainrings, and more.

COMPONENT WEAR

With the introduction of higher-power E-MTBs, drivetrain components are subject to higher forces. Eagle Transmission has been proven to perform well under load, but may experience accelerated wear as drive unit power increases.

Here are a few things you can do to mitigate wear:

  • Make sure your Transmission is set up properly with the correct chain length, and using the recommended Setup Key and Setup Cog for your frame and chainring size.
  • Check that your derailleur has been properly trimmed, whether using a micro-adjustment (AXS) or a barrel adjuster (mechanical).
  • Keep your Transmission components clean and lubricated. Dirt and debris can cause premature wear.
  • Use only mechanical single-click shifters, and make sure that Multishift is turned off for all E-MTBs.
  • Choose a larger chainring, like a 36T or 38T. Bigger chainrings increase chainring wrap and encourage using a larger cassette cog. Together, this means the chain contacts more teeth at once, which distributes load more evenly and can extend the life of the cassette, chain, and chainring.

COMPONENT COMPATABILITY

Drawing a clear distinction between Eagle Drivetrains and Eagle Transmissions, parts with the T-Type designation are engineered to work with the Transmission only. The freedom to mix and match Eagle components remains within each system, giving you confidence when it comes to upgrading and replacing.

XX DH Transmission derailleurs and cassettes are not cross-compatible within the Eagle Transmission ecosystem. For chainring and crankset compatibility, check out the compatibility map.

REAR DERAILLEUR SERVICE

Take a crash or slam into an immovable object with your Eagle Transmission derailleur, and there’s a better chance than ever that the only damage will be cosmetic. Which is why we’ve equipped all Eagle Transmission derailleurs with replaceable upper and lower outer links and skid plates. Being able to rebuild your Eagle Transmission derailleur doesn’t stop there. If needed, you can replace the B-Bolt and Knurl ring, Setup Key, pulley wheels, as well as the easily removed Inline Cage and damper assembly.

POD CONTROLLER BATTERY REPLACEMENT

The CR2032 battery that powers your Pod Controller should last up to two years. If it needs to be replaced, remove the quarter-turn cover with a coin and replace the battery. No pairing or reset required.

CHAINRING REPLACEMENT

Replacing an Eagle Transmission chainring is a simple process that may require a few extra steps. If you have swapped to a bigger or smaller chainring, you must consult the Chain Length & Setup Key Calculator that is located here, or in the SRAM AXS App to make sure that your chain is still the correct length. Your derailleur position will also change, so you must reperform the Eagle Transmission set up process.

FIRMWARE AND APP UPDATES

Updating firmware can improve aspects of your AXS system and add new features. Each AXS component has its own firmware, so check the status of every part in your bike profile to ensure you’re getting the most from your components.

App updates also add important features, like in-app MicroAdjust and Wireless Blip compatibility. Make sure you’re using the latest version of the AXS app.

CLEAN IS FAST—AND LASTS

Cleaning will extend your drivetrain’s lifespan while ensuring you get the best performance ride after ride. Your Eagle Transmission’s IPX7 rating means it is built to withstand creek crossings, rain, and routine cleaning.

HOW TO CLEAN:
1. Remove the derailleur battery and install the red battery block.
2. Use a damp cloth to wipe off any dirt and debris.
3. Clean the components with drivetrain-specific cleaners. Harsh degreasers will lead to damaged seals.
4. Avoid direct pressure washing to protect the components as you would with all the seals and bearings on any bike.
5. Rinse thoroughly and allow the parts to dry, then lubricate with your favorite chain lube and wipe away the excess.
