Ciao, Ochain

Measurably reducing chain turbulence and freeing up the cranks, Ochain was designed to simulate a chainless ride feel. The impact of this goal may go beyond what you’d expect. By adding damping to the chainring, there’s reduced torque on the chain, improving suspension feel and rear-wheel traction with the ground, all of which quiet the mind and amplify focus on the trail.

At its core, Ochain’s design is anything but simple. But, for riders, using it is.

Let’s get started.

Installation is easy

Ochain and the XX Eagle Transmission 104 BCD T-Type Chainring (in 32T, 34T, and 36T) were (literally) made for each other. If you’d like to use another chainring or chainring bolts with your Ochain, you’ll need to confirm fitment, clearance, and chainline before riding to avoid damage.

Grab your Ochain (with included mounting bolts) and your compatible 104 BCD XX Eagle Transmission chainring (with two sizes of included chainring bolts).

If your chainline is 55mm, like on most trail bikes, use the short chainring bolts for a proper alignment. If your chainline is 56.5mm, like on most DH bikes, use the longer bolts with the included spacers.

Tech tip: Make sure Ochain is installed with the nuts (6mm interface) on the inner side of chainring, and the bolts (5mm interface) on the outer side of the Ochain.

Tuning

Looking for more or less travel in your Ochain? Let’s review your options.

Tune your ride feel with a twist of a dial using the External Travel Adjust. You have 5 different settings to choose from, based on your ride style and preferred terrain type:

  • 0°: Locked position: great for back-to-back comparisons
  • 3°: XC/Trail use: great for smooth, hardpack trails, flowy compressions, and limited braking bumps.
  • 6°: Trail/Enduro use: great for medium rough trails with some rocks and roots, and some braking bumps.
  • 9°: Enduro/DH/ bike park use: great for rough trails that are rocky and rooty, with consistent braking bumps.
  • 12°: DH / bike park use: great for extremely rough, loose trails with large compressions, where the damage risk to wheels and tires are present.

Tune your ride feel by swapping out the travel chip inside your Ochain. They come equipped with a 9° travel chip, but can be swapped out for a 6° or 12° chip with the Travel Chips Tuning Kit.

Service intervals

Similar to rear shock service intervals, we recommend servicing your Ochain at 100 and 200 hours. Wait, you have to service your Ochain? Yes—we like to think of Ochain as a “spider damper,” and like other dampers, they require occasional service to keep everything performing as intended.

100-hour service

Replaces Ochain’s elastomers, restoring damping quality to maintain reduced trail feedback and increased suspension feel.

200-hour service

Replaces Ochain’s wear components, much like a full suspension service, restoring original gliding, damping, and contamination durability.
